"Let’s be real. Turning 40 is looming like a final boss"
I was deeply bored with the gym. I didn't want to just "burn calories" anymore; I wanted to learn how to not die if someone grabbed me in the car park, and maybe channel some of my daily work rage into something productive.
Stepping into a martial arts gym can be intimidating, but Elaina creates an atmosphere that is focused yet incredibly welcoming. She trains everyone—from absolute beginners to seasoned martial artists—with equal respect and dedication.
Her drills are practical, high-energy, and tailored to real-world self-defense scenarios, ensuring you build genuine confidence alongside physical skill.
My sister and I train together, and Elaina deserves a medal just for managing our sparring sessions. She has somehow channeled decades of built-in sibling rivalry into productive martial arts skills. Instead of us just swinging wildly because "she stole my clothes in 2000”. Whilst remaining patient whilst we both try to figure out what our lefts and rights are (I blame the perimenopause!!)
Highly recommend!

"Everyone has been so supportive and encouraging"
I’m in my 40s and hadn’t done any proper exercise in years, so walking through the door at Impact Martial Arts was pretty nerve-wracking. But from the moment I arrived, Elaina, Tammy and Michaela made me feel completely welcome. Everyone has been so supportive and encouraging. When I get something wrong (which still happens regularly!), there’s no pressure or judgement, just plenty of help, patience and encouragement to keep going.
That makes such a difference when you’re starting from scratch and feeling a bit self-conscious. The whole experience has been far more enjoyable than I expected, and I genuinely look forward to classes each week. If you’ve been thinking about trying martial arts but are worried you’re too old, too unfit, or haven’t exercised in years, I’d definitely recommend giving it a go. You might surprise yourself.
